New Year’s Resolutions from Volunteer Managers

February 3, 2011

At the first Volunteer Administrator’s Network Leadership Council meeting of this year, we asked members to share with us their New Year’s resolution for their volunteer program.

Jeannine Moeder of Alzheimer’s Association of San Diego County

“Stop and enjoy the generous contributions of our volunteers on a more personal level. Write more hand-written notes and make more phone calls of appreciation.”

Chrissy Califf of Words Alive

“As Words Alive expands its core programs and continues to grow in the community, my hope is to analyze the volunteer needs, recognize leadership opportunities and engage volunteers most effectively. I’m not just seeking able bodies but rather securing volunteer positions that encourage growth and speak to their strengths.”

Sandy Lawrenson, RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) Manager at County of San Diego Aging and Independent Services

“My resolution for 2011 is twofold:

  1. Strengthen my relationships with other volunteer managers in the network
  2. 5% increase of ethnically diverse volunteers for RSVP.”

Share with us your New Year’s resolution and let us know how it is going! We will be sharing a new Volunteer Coordinator’s resolution for his program soon.

These are all great resolutions and very helpful for us as a new user of volunteer resources to hear. Learning about the ways all of you are trying to improve helps orgs like us get the right start with our volunteer programs. Thanks!
