New Year’s Resolutions for a Brand New Volunteer Coordinator

February 15, 2011

Diets are boring and waking up to go to the gym at 6 a.m. can be tedious work indeed; hence, I’ve never much been one for traditional New Year’s resolutions. However, this last year found me helping to develop a brand new volunteer program and I think in this case resolutions are in order.

In 2010, The Arc of San Diego officially launched its brand new volunteer program! So far, we have focused primarily on building the framework for our program: volunteer forms (applications, waivers, time sheets, etc.), our volunteer handbook, and an orientation to familiarize volunteers with The Arc and its many services are just a few of the things we have been working on. Some of my main resolutions for 2011 will include:

  • Increasing targeted outreach to specific groups and age ranges (college students and seniors, specifically)
  • Continuing to refine and create new volunteer opportunities that are both rewarding for the volunteer and as beneficial as possible for our organization
  • Continuing to make connections/create fruitful partnerships with amazing, volunteer-oriented organizations such as Volunteer San Diego
  • Offering more opportunities for volunteers to donate and for donors to volunteer

I can only hope that 2011 will continue to prove as amazing and rewarding as 2010 was, for both myself and The Arc of San Diego’s new volunteer program.
